Now that Donald Trump has been elected President for the second time and is backed by majorities in the Senate, House, and Supreme Court, you may be wondering if there is anything that you, as a solitary individual sitting at home, can do about this mess.
After all, given the power and reach of the institutions that the other side controls, it’s natural to think that only large institutions such as the Democratic Party and the ACLU can possibly oppose them and that the rest of us must be relegated to roles as passive bystanders. Now, there is truth to the first part of that statement – these large institutions WILL have the leading role in limiting the damage that the second Trump Administration inflicts upon our nation. However, it is NOT true that the rest of us must simply sit here and passively await our fate. Consider that,
- The large institutions standing up to Trumpism are composed of individuals just like you working cooperatively for what we all believe in.
- A number of individuals working outside of those institutions but in loose concert with one another can, together, end up having an effect equal to or greater than that exerted by a large institution.
This website, therefore, is all about what you, as an individual, can do to blunt the damage that the people currently in power will inflict and to ensure that future elections return a competent government that effectively responds to the needs of the people. You’ll find, then, that the two major thrusts of this site will be,
- Helping you find opportunities to volunteer with and donate to those large (and medium and small!) institutions who will be at the forefront of mitigating damage and driving change.
- Helping you figure out what you, as an individual working largely on your own, will do. This will mostly be about persuading others to see things our way in either online or in person interactions. This work is not easy and far from glamourous but it will add up to something essential. If each of 20 million individuals like us manage to nudge someone on the other side a step or two toward our side between now and 2028, the result in the presidential elections in 2028 will be a landslide against Trumpism!

Undoubtedly, two of the things you were worried about when you voted against Trump were the distinct possibilities that he would transform the United States into an authoritarian police state and that he would crater the economy. Now that he’s elected, you’ll need to do your part in preventing these but you might also be interested in what you can do to prepare for the worst… in case he actually succeeds in creating a police state and knocking the economy flat on its back. We offer links on these, not in the expectation that the worst will come about but in the recognition that being prepared for the worst can help us sleep better at night.
